How long does it take to get my medical marijuana card in Florida?

How do I get a card?

The Florida Department of Health has created a system for issuing and renewing Medical Marijuana Use Registry identification cards for patients and their legal representatives. In combination with the Medical Marijuana Use Registry, identification cards will further allow patients and legal representatives to quickly demonstrate that they are registered in the Medical Marijuana Use Registry.

As of March 2017, all patients and legal representatives must obtain a Registry Identification Card to fill an order for low-THC cannabis, medical marijuana, or a marijuana delivery device at one of the state’s medical marijuana treatment centers.

Patients who are minors must designate a legal representative on his or her application, and in the Medical Marijuana Use Registry. Legal representatives must also submit a completed application to the Office of Medical Marijuana Use to obtain a Medical Marijuana Use Registry identification card.

To receive a Medical Cannabis Use Identification card you must first be a permanent or seasonal resident and, second, have a qualifying condition as stated in SB 8-A. This list can be found here.

Once you’ve qualified, contact our office for an initial appointment. Make sure to bring identification and medical records of your diagnosis. To streamline your visit, print our new patient packet and fill this out before your arrival.

At our office, you will speak with our certifying physician, Dr. Mark Moore. Medcan staff will put your information into the Florida Department of Health’s Medical Cannabis Use Registry to start your card application. After your visit, make sure to check your email for a message about your medical cannabis card application. To complete the application the DOH requires you upload a picture of your identification/driver’s license and pay the $75 card fee. Note, this fee will be annual.

After payment for the card is processed, your application is complete and will be accessed by the Florida Department of Health. Patients are typically approved within 10 days. If you are not approved within 10 days, call the Department of Health to check on your application. Once approved, you will receive an email from the Department of Health. Give us a call at our office number (850) 222-2226 to let us know. Medcan staff will put in your recommendation, which you will then be able to pick up from any Florida Dispensary of your choice.
